La journée de pi

(English below)

*********

This Friday is Pi Day (technically, pi Day, as the greek symbol is in its lower case form, the upper case denotes a product), a geeky day for all nerds to celebrate the ratio of the circumference of a circle by its diameter. For the Japanese, it's also White Day, a day for men to give back to their better half triple the worth of the chocolate they received on Valentine's Day (I assume the lonely hikikomoris just buy themselves three times their normal amount of tentacle-rape hentai). March 14 also happens to be Albert Einstein's birthday. Anyway, to celebrate this nerdy holiday, I will be giving a talk in one of Toronto's three universities (it's not Ryerson, but I'll give you two guesses). Guess in which department!

And, for another bit of good news, we'll have a guest over for the Easter extra long weekend. Though I'm guessing we won't be watching Jesus of Nazareth.

  • It's going to be awesome! :D

The only problem is that she's lactose intolerant; so no olive-cheese bread, cheesy pizzas, market cheese, broccoli and goat cheese soup, or even those easter chocolate eggs that you guys like to make. :(

  • Ok bad joke here (so an advance warning apology)... but does this mean that on pi day you get to eat lots of pies?

(G is still cringing from that bad joke)

Eugenie, you will just have more chocolate eggs for yourself. I sure will make some here...;-)

  • Yes, some people eat pie for pi day. As long as they're circular.

  • Do they eat 3.142 slices of the pie? There is an article about pi day on the BBC website today.
