La fête du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean

(English below)

Qu'importe. On va fêter pareil.

Let me mention that today is the one-hundred-and-seventieth anniversary of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. In 1838, on June 11, the Société des Vingt-et-un send a bunch of settlers (who didn't have dysentery I hope) where what is now Grande-Baie (and I guess Port-Alfred), just a sub-borough of La Baie, itself a borough of merged city which I will not name (I do not accept the fact that stupid bureaucrats picked the most unoriginal and inappropriate name). To celebrate, no blueberries because they're not in season yet (and it would have to be wild blueberries from the land of blueberries, and it's not la Sainte-Anne (pronounced Sainte-Âne) yet). I don't have any grosse bière (large beer bottle, the size of a regular wine bottle, even girls 13 and up are expected to stomach that back home) and nothing to make tourtière. But we'll celebrate anyway with chocolate cake, my (maternal) grandma's recipe, though she was, incidentally, from Beauport (that's in the Québec City region, for those who don't know their geography). I should have had a holiday today.

Anywho, I still remember the hundred-and-fiftieth anniversary. I was in fourth grade back then, when you learn about the history and geography of your city and region. We toured them both (Chicoutimi and the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean) and even visited Arthur Villeneuve's house back when he was alive and still living in it. I mentioned to him and his wife that I had seen them on TV, but being senile already, they didn't remember being part of that TV special called "Mon royaume pour un bleuet". Come to think of it, I wonder if they took part in the CSHA...

Anyway, I have to call some realtors tomorrow, as becoming what Dr. Zoidberg was for a brief time near the lost city of Atlanta seems like the reasonable thing to do. I'm still working on a post about my third ever visit to Ottawa, it'll be posted soon, but in the past, with respect to this blog...
