Un bleuet loin du fjord

Retour au bercail

(English version below)

***************************

I am now no longer away from the fjord (temporarily). I'm back in Chicoutimi for the Holidays. The snow here looks like mid-April leftovers but it's not as pathetic as in Quebec City (which could lose its small amount of white stuff if it rains on the 24th, making it the first brown Xmas ever on record there). Another disappointment is the Christmas tree my father bought, which happens to be quite thinner than it should (we've got lots of decorations to put on it), but it's only because the choice this year was sucky. I guess that like Charlie Brown's tree, it'll need a little love to fix it.

I said I'd talk about my defense again. I have to thank all those who came to support me, including my fellow PhD candidates in stats still at McGill and able to wake up in the morning, and a handful of old chums from the olden days of SUMS (I guess I'm the nth to beat Syd in terms of PhD completion time). To celebrate (after the before noon alcohol), I went with my girlfriend and my supervisor to Chez Lévêque for a late lunch. The tartare is not quite as good as at L'Express (though still excellent) but the portions are more reasonable, leaving room for the dessert (the classic sugar pie). And to celebrate some more in the evening, we had foie gras (the goose kind, plus salt from the marshes of Camargue and jelly of I can't remember what kind of alcoholic beverage). Nothing too fancy for the working class.

The next day I was off to Quebec City (thank you Chinese blog translator for the lift), to do Christmas quasi-shopping and pseudo-tourism. I unfortunately couldn't stay for long. Now that me and my bros are back in Chicout, it'll be time to decorate the tree and summon the team to attempt to finish our D&D campaign...

  • Poor Sid - when he finishes there should be a whole congregation of SUMS alumni to congratulate him. ;)

Yeah, sorry about your skinnier-than-usual 9 footer. There can only be the most flashy of flashy decorations allowed on it this year. Tough bananas, simple glass bulb!
