Retour à la civilisation

Bon, je suis de retour à Montréal depuis hier. C'est bien de ne plus être au milieu de nulle part, mais câlice, on pourrait pas avoir de la neige et du frette? C'est décembre et ça ressemble au mois de novembre avec des températures d'octobre.

Anyway, immédiatement après avoir retrouvé ma blonde à la gare, on a eut un heureux snack chez Eurosnack (calembour) à l'Atrium du 1000 de la Gauchetière. C'est peut-être pas aussi fancy que le regretté Eurosnack sur Mont-Royal, mais ça fait chaud au coeur de savoir qu'il existe toujours au moins une franchise de mon fast-food montréalais préféré.

Et j'ai acheté du vrai pain et des cretons chez Première Moisson avant même d'avoir déposé mes valises à l'apart... Il ne me reste plus qu'à défendre ma thèse lundi (devant le commité d'examinateurs essentiellement, pratiquement tous mes collègues au doc en stats sont partis en vacances déjà).

I've been back in Montreal since yesteday (well, the day before now, technically). It's nice not to be in the middle of nowhere anymore, but why, oh why must it be so warm and snowless? Despite having lived here for the past 9 years, I still can't get used to this subtropical climate. It's really depressing, with november dreariness but october temperatures.

Anyway, immediately getting off the train (and into the arms of my girlfriend), I went to check if there still was a Eurosnack somewhere in the vicinity of Bonaventure metro. To our delight, the one next to the skating rink is still in operation so we had a late lunch full of nostalgia and delicious fries (with skin, fried in peanut oil, I'm not allergic to that) with mayo (civilized I tell you). OK, so that franchise is not as nice as the now gone Mont-Royal one, but it's good to know there's still at least one franchise left of my favorite montreal fast-food joint.

And, as promised, I bought real bread and cretons at the Première Moisson before even getting back to the apartment. Now all I have to do is defend my thesis on Monday (in front of the committee essentially, because almost all my peers doing a doctorate in stats have already gone on vacation, oh well).
